The letter he wrote from a far away land,
Tasted of love and beauty
As good coffee and tea
Were consumed
Writing sweetly to me
From daylight until the hours were wee.
The letter he wrote from a far away land,
Smelled of his perfumed hands grasping a pen filled with ink
Handwriting words that he knew would sink
Into deeper than my soul.
The letter he wrote from a far away land,
Traveled through many a country
Coated with fingerprints of people
Speaking languages I don’t understand.
The letter he wrote from a far away land,
Heard the air gush
As it traveled but did not rush
Into my soft eager hands.
The letter he wrote from a far away land,
Saw the light of the day
When it came my way
Entering more than just my eyes.
It entered my heart
My soul
Mind
And body
Magically it danced
And moved in me romance
I’m thankful and I’ll treasure
The travel and adventure
Of the words handwritten
On the letter he wrote from
That far away land.
The Letter 179 words

You’re extremely lucky the letter actually showed up in the post, I’m still waiting on a T-shirt that was sent a couple weeks ago!
unawarebutunderlined said:
This is fiction…but yes receiving letters or packages is always a treat!
po3tic said:
Luckily my comment was meant as humour but you’re right, it is a treat π
unawarebutunderlined said:
Hahaha… Thanks for the joke!
po3tic said:
You’re welcome! I’m rarely serious it’s just that my humour is dryer than a desert!

Beautiful!
I have all of my hand-written letters & cards from loved ones saved. I do look at them once in a while – especially the card & a note I once got from my brother that passed away 11 years ago.
Here’s one of them: http://sharingmemyselfandi.wordpress.com/2012/08/01/a-30th-birthday-card/

This made me smile because it brought back memories of my first love. A year older, he went into the military while I finished out my senior year. I remember the anticipation and eagerly ripping the envelope open, and then reading once, too fast, then savoring again, reading between all the lines. (Even after he wrote that he chose someone else, we wrote for a couple years before I grew tired of the head games :))
unawarebutunderlined said:
Wow…he missed out…you are a dear!
jannatwrites said:
Haha, you’re too kind. We wouldn’t have been right for each other, so it’s all good.
My husband might be apt to say I’m more like a “bear” π (especially first thing in the AM!)
unawarebutunderlined said:
What do guys know anyway? I had an experience with one in uniform too…I wonder if he ever tattooed over my name?!!
jannatwrites said:
Ooooh, a tattoo – the constant reminder! If he ever got married, he probably had to do something (unless he lucked out and found a woman with the same name :))
This made me laugh – thanks π
unawarebutunderlined said:
I doubt he married one with my name…not a usual one… Hahahaha!
jannatwrites said:
Well then, he’s probably got a really crummy looking used-to-be-a-name rose in its place π
unawarebutunderlined said:
Or maybe he had a daughter and named her after me….
jannatwrites said:
Possible, if he had an understanding partner (I’m not understanding. No way would I give hubby another constant reminder of an ex :)) This could be an interesting idea for a story, though…
unawarebutunderlined said:
Right…I just love how conversations do that…you are my gift today!
jannatwrites said:
π It’s been a fun exchange (and I’ve revealed that I’m intolerant, and probably intolerable!)
unawarebutunderlined said:
No love, real and actually human! I say run with the story if you are moved to…I’m just getting my feet wet here by blogging. I only started it to get brave and post in contests like Trifecta…I found others too…I just want to learn and grow…your comments mean the world!
jannatwrites said:
I’m glad you decided to give some writing challenges a try. I look forward to reading more from you π
