Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,
What a joy to share our first Carpe Diem Special by Alexey Andreyev (1971- ), our featured haiku-poet from Russia. Next to his skills as a poet he has also skills as a painter and as a mathematician. He has a degree in Mathematics. By the way … I hope you all like our new logo for the Specials.

Of course you know what the goal is of these Specials? But I will tell it anyway (smiles), because there are a few new contributors. The goal of these Specials is to write, compose an all new haiku inspired on the one given by our featured poet in the same sense, tone and spirit as the one given. Not an easy task, but it’s a challenge to look in another way to the writings of fellow haiku-poets both classic and modern.

Thank you for offering the opportunity. Did I not share the information correctly? I put his down below. This is my first time of being involved with Carpe Diem, so I’m uncertain of “the rules”.
You did a great job. Here at Carpe Diem we have no rules. Basho, a classical haiku-master, once said ‘now you know the rules, but you have to forget them immidiately, because haiku has to come right from your heart’. So … no rules …:-)
Oh good…I’m a rule breaker anyway 😉 thank you for letting me know that I fit right in perfectly just being myself.
Just feel free in writing your haiku … I write my haiku also without rules.
Love the Aurora Borealis. I have been lucky enough to see them. My husband and I went on a flight that took you over the Shetlands and back at the right time of year, so you could see them from above.
How beautiful it must have been…
It was completely surreal because you were looking at them from an angle you don’t normally see. We chose to do it that way as there was a higher chance of seeing them, and it was warmer lol
I bet…I’ve posted a few things lately on them. Maybe one day I’ll be so close to them that I could touch them 🙂
I’ve seen the Aurora Borealis twice–in the U.S.! Once in Kansas (of all places), and once in Pennsylvania. Unforgettable! Thanks for your words as reminder of those sightings.

very nice. i lived in Alaska years ago, and the northern lights are what i miss the most.
I’ve never been to Alaska…I somehow think I’d like to see them somewhere you can almost touch them 🙂 further North. Well if I could stand the cold!

Beautiful poem! I’d love to see the Northern Lights. Maybe one day I’ll have clothes warm enough to go where they are most prominent. (I’m pretty sure I’ll never see them from Arizona 🙂 )
